United want to win for bereaved Diallo – Amorim

Ruben Amorim wants to win for Amad Diallo this weekend after revealing the Manchester United winger will miss the trip to Brentford due to a family bereavement.

The Red Devils are looking to build on their chaotic 2-1 victory against Chelsea when they return to Premier League action in west London on Saturday lunchtime.

Diogo Dalot is available for the game but Noussair Mazraoui misses out with a knock and Casemiro is suspended, while Diallo is also absent due to personal reasons.

“Licha (Lisandro Martinez) is out, Casemiro is out because of the red card,” United boss Amorim said ahead of travelling to the capital.

“Amad is not here. Someone in his family passed away, so we are giving all the support to Amad. We understood that it was important for him to have his time and to return home.

“(Mazraoui) is not going to be (available) until we stop for the national team, so he’s out also. The rest are fit and ready to play.”

Diallo, who is understood to be staying in Manchester, suffered the family loss after being subjected to social media abuse after posing for a photo with divisive former United player Alejandro Garnacho following the Chelsea game.

“I say the same thing to my players – shut down social media,” Amorim said. “It’s like that nowadays. It’s a price you have to pay.

“But the important thing is that the club and his friends is real life for Amad. We are here for him.

“It’s a tough moment and in this kind of moment it’s not important the next game. We can win without Amad and we want to win also for Amad.”

Manchester United's Bryan Mbeumo after scoring against Burnley in Premier League, August 2025
Bryan Mbeumo returns to Brentford

Saturday’s match will see Bryan Mbeumo return to Brentford for the first time since his £71million switch to Old Trafford.

“It’s really important for everything he has been doing,” Amorim said. “The light that he brings to the dressing room. He is not the guy that talks more, but you can always feel he is there to help us.

“He runs a lot, he presses a lot, he is a different threat compared to last season. He can take set pieces, so I’m more than happy with Bryan.”

Mbeumo could start with Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha for the first time on Saturday, when United are seeking to secure back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since May 2024.

Amorim says it is “really important” to finally do that for the first time since he took charge but he knows it is just a baby step for a group whose performances are unpredictable.

“I think we have (played well) this year,” the United boss said. “But it’s normal the fans don’t know what is going to happen the next game (given what we have produced).

“To be completely honest, I have an idea but I don’t know how it’s going to be and I’m the manager of the team.

“I think the best way of dealing with that is that every game is the last one. It’s just not thinking about (winning) two games.

“OK, it’s not too many games for Manchester United. Yes, it’s a big deal for Manchester United, so the game is going to be the most important game for a long time in Manchester United.

“So, I understand the feeling of the fans, so let’s start changing that feeling and to present ourselves with that urgency that we need to do on the pitch.”

WATCH: Fleetwood and McIlroy take just 14 holes to blitz America in electric European start

Published

This post was originally published on this site.

TOMMY FLEETWOOD AND Rory McIlroy continued their brilliant Ryder Cup partnership as they dismantled Collin Morikawa and Harris English in just 14 holes.

The pair, dubbed ‘Fleetwood Mac’, were 5&4 winners as Europe got off to a blistering start in Friday morning’s opening foursomes session.

The European duo — who are a perfect three from three together in Ryder Cup foursomes — got off to a perfect start with this McIlroy birdie at the first to go one up on the first hole:

They pushed out that lead with another birdie at the par-five fourth to go two up:

And quickly pressed home that advantage with birdies on the fifth:

And the sixth to win three straight holes and race into a commanding lead of four up thru six:

From there, the point appeared a mere formality, and when the par-three 14th was halved in par, McIlroy and Fleetwood sealed their 5&4 win.

“When you’ve got a partner like Tommy, you can play with so much freedom and trust in your game,” McIlroy said afterwards, “because you know you have someone that’s gonna back you up.

“That’s how I felt the two times that we played in Rome, and then today.

“Foursomes can be a tough format. You can play a little tentative with the way the format is, but knowing that I have this man beside me to bail me out if I do hit a bad shot, that’s very comforting to know.”

Chelsea talisman Palmer set to miss Liverpool game

Published

Cole Palmer is set to be out for “two to three weeks” with Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca confirming the England international needs to be rested following a groin injury.

It means he will miss the upcoming Premier League matches at home to Brighton and Liverpool as well as Wednesday’s visit of Benfica in the Champions League.

“We decided to protect Cole a little bit,” said Maresca. “In terms of not letting his injury get worse.

“We decided to rest him for two to three weeks until the international break to see if with that rest he can recover 100% and to be fit after the international break.

“I don’t think he needs surgery but it is just to manage the pain in his groin. We have decided to be a little bit conservative with him.”

The 23-year-old withdrew from Chelsea’s starting line-up during the warm-up ahead of the 5-1 win against West Ham in August and subsequently missed their victory over Fulham as well as England’s September World Cup qualifiers.

He returned as a second-half substitute for the 2-2 draw with Brentford, where he scored and played a leading role in earning Chelsea a point after being a goal down, then impressed with a goal in the 3-1 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.

However, Maresca has decided to take precautionary action to ensure Palmer’s participation later in the campaign is not compromised, similar to the way Reece James’ involvement was managed last season as he came back from a lengthy lay-off.

Tosin Adarabioyo is also set to be out until after the international break while Wesley Fofana will miss the Brighton match after suffering a concussion in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup win at Lincoln.

It leaves Maresca short in defence, with Levi Colwill out for much of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Josh Acheampong and summer signing Jorrel Hato are likely stand-ins.

The head coach said he is not worried about his goalkeeping situation following Robert Sanchez’s early red card in the defeat to Manchester United and an unconvincing display from deputy Filip Jorgensen.

Sanchez was dismissed after four minutes when he raced from his goal and fouled Bryan Mbeumo, but is available to face his former club on Saturday having served a one-match suspension in midweek.

“Robert for a long period was very good for us,” said Maresca. “The last part of last season and the beginning of this season he was fantastic.

“He made a mistake against Manchester United and recognised that, I said many times that when a keeper makes a mistake or when a midfielder makes a mistake, it is exactly the same.

“We are happy with Robert, we are happy with Filip and there is not any problem with Robert.”
