A PROJECT TO restore a family home in Cork that was destroyed by fire was this week completed, around six months on from the devastating incident.

There were eight people living in the Moore family home in Ballincollig at the time of the house fire last August.

Speaking to Neil Prendeville Show on Cork’s RedFM last year, Abbey Moore described “chaotic” scenes as the family fled to safety.

She said the “fires were bursting out the windows” by the time the family got to safety and that “it happened so fast”.

“It was terrifying,” she told RedFM in September.

She added that her parents had to go into emergency accommodation following the house fire, something that they “struggled” with.

Abbey said the family also struggled with being split up following the fire.

She added that there was no house insurance as they were juggling many bills at the time.

In response to Abbey’s interview on RedFM, fire restoration company Belfor Ireland offered to carry out fire and water decontamination works for free.

These works allowed for the home to be restored.

Belfor Ireland then called on other companies to join in and told RedFM that “breaking it into smaller parts” would be the best way to restore the home.

Neil Prendeville remarked on his show back in September that Belfor Ireland “had got the ball rolling” and dozens of companies throughout Cork came forward to carry out repair works for free.

Damien Cuffe was the project manager of the “Rebel Rebuild” and the newly restored home features a brand-new top-floor conversion.

RedFM remarked that the rebuild was made possible through the “extraordinary generosity of Cork’s tradespeople, local businesses, and the wider community”.

The station added that the Rebel Rebuild has shown “just how strong and supportive the Cork community can be”.

“To see the Moore family return to a safe, beautiful home after such a traumatic event is the ultimate win for everyone involved.”
