Job scams

1. In our main story this morning, Eimer McAuley reports that a leading advocacy group for migrant nurses working in Ireland has spoken out about “widespread” instances of recruitment agencies promising jobs that do not actually exist

Migrant Nurses Ireland (MNI) is calling on nursing homes that hire nurses from abroad to ensure that they are working with legitimate agencies that are properly registered.

Louth

2. A rural community in Co Louth has said it will come together and stand by one another after three members of one family were found dead in a home yesterday.

The victims have been named locally as parents Louise Doherty O’Connor and Mark O’Connor, and their 27-year-old son Evan O’Connor.

4. According to a new Daft report, the average price of a three-bed semi-detached house in Ireland in the third of quarter of this year was just over €421,000 – and in Dublin, it was €612,000.

Local authorities

5. Staying with housing, another report from the National Oversight and Audit Commission found that over 4,000 social houses sat empty last year, while it took local authorities an average of eight months to re-let homes.

Murder investigation

6. Gardaí have renewed their appeal for information on the murder of Dessie Fox, 47, who was fatally shot 35-years-ago today at Healy’s Bridge, Prosperous, Co Kildare on Sunday, 30 September 1990.

Passenger cap

7. Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien will seek approval today for legislation to remove the passenger cap at Dublin Airport, which is set at 32 million passengers per year.

8. YouTube has agreed to pay $22 million to settle a lawsuit filed by US President Donald Trump after the company suspended his account over the 6 January 2021 attack on the Capitol.
