A spokesman for American football team the Pittsburgh Steelers has confirmed that one of its players was involved in an incident in Dublin on Friday.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are hosting the Minnesota Vikings in an official National Football League (NFL) regular season game at Croke Park this afternoon.
It is the first time that an official NFL game has taken place in Ireland.
The statement follows reports that Skylar Thompson, a quarterback with the Pittsburgh Steelers, was assaulted and robbed in the capital on Friday.
Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten said: “We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin.
“We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident.”
The NFL says Thompson, 28, who was not due to play in today’s match due to a hamstring injury, is in his fourth season in the NFL and his first in Pittsburgh.
