The British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will warn his party that the UK stands at a fork in the road between decency and division.
At the Labour party conference in Liverpool, he will also tell members that his government is in a fight for the “soul” of the country.
Mr Starmer’s speech comes at a time when there has been growing speculation over his leadership of the party.
It is expected that the Prime Minister will seek to reassure members and the public that he is the right man for the job.
He will tell delegates that Britain is “at a fork in the road”, adding that the country “can choose decency. Or we can choose division. Renewal or decline. A country – proud of its values, in control of its future or one that succumbs, against the grain of our history, to the politics of grievance.”
Mr Starmer will also say that his government is fighting for the soul of the country, adding that the challenge is “every bit as big as rebuilding Britain after the war, and we must all rise to this challenge”.
His speech comes after a bruising few weeks, which saw the resignation of Angela Rayner as deputy prime minister and the sacking of UK Ambassador to the US, Peter Mandelson.
Several cabinet members have spoken of how the party is “fighting back” and needs to better communicate its mission and achievements.
