Spirit is planning to suspend 40 routes as it race to cut costs in its second bankruptcy.
Earlier this week, the carrier said it would furlough about 1,800 flight attendants.

Spirit Airlines told staff Friday that it’s suspending about 40 routes, finalizing a 25% cut to its November schedule as it scrambles to slash costs in bankruptcy and focus on profitable flights.
“While the news has been tough, we believe the clarity will help us move forward as a team,” Rana Ghosh, Spirit’s chief commercial officer, said in a note to employees, which was seen by CNBC.
Earlier this week Spirit said it plans to furlough about 1,800 flight attendants, around a third of its cabin crew members.

Spirit filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last month for the second time in less than a year as it struggled with higher-than-expected costs and weaker travel demand than it projected.
Spirit didn’t immediately comment on the routes it is cutting, but Ghosh said in his note that Spirit will be halting service in Hartford, Connecticut, and Minneapolis.
He also said Spirit has hired Andrea Lusso, who previously was the principal for supply chain and network design at Amazon Air, the online retailer’s air shipment arm. Lusso will serve as vice president of network planning. His predecessor, John Kirby, retired last month after more than 40 years in the industry.
A 64-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a fire at a London hotel housing asylum seekers.
The blaze at the Thistle City Barbican in Dingley Road, Islington, is being treated as a hate crime by investigating officers and has been condemned as a “despicable and cowardly attack”.
It happened at about 22:50 BST on Wednesday, according to the Metropolitan Police.
No-one was hurt and staff put out the flames before officers arrived.
The man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and is in custody, the Met said.
The force added that it was an isolated incident and police were keeping an open mind about motive.
Islington Council leader, Una O’Halloran, and local Labour MP Dame Emily Thornberry said: “We utterly condemn this despicable and cowardly attack that has no place in our community or society.”
‘No place in Islington’
Their statement added: “Islington is a proud beacon of tolerance and diversity that welcomes people from all over the world.”
Attempts to divide would fail, they said, adding that “this kind of violence can never be the answer”.
“Anyone who seeks to incite hatred or violence has no place in Islington,” they said.

Police inquiries are ongoing.
Nine people were arrested after a protest and counter-protest took place outside the hotel in August.
Billionaire Elon Musk and Prince Andrew are named in new files released by Congressional Democrats that relate to the late convicted paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The files turned over to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee by the Jeffrey Epstein Estate appear to show that Musk had been invited to Epstein’s island in December 2014.
Separately a flight manifest from New Jersey to Florida in May 2000 names Prince Andrew among the passengers.
Musk and Prince Andrew have been approached for comment.
Prince Andrew has previously strenuously denied any wrongdoing. Musk has previously been quoted as saying that Epstein had invited him to the island but he had declined.
The partial records are from the third batch of documents produced by the Jeffrey Epstein Estate. Democrats on the House Oversight Committee say they include phone message logs, copies of flight logs and manifests for aircrafts, copies of financial ledgers and Epstein’s daily schedule.
In addition to Musk and Prince Andrew, the files released publicly also contain the names of other prominent figures including internet entrepreneur Peter Thiel and Steve Bannon, a former advisor to Donald Trump
One line in the records dated 6 December 2014 reads: “Reminder: Elon Musk to island Dec. 6 (is this still happening?)”
A flight manifest records that Prince Andrew was on a flight with Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell from Teterboro, New Jersey, to West Palm Beach, Florida, on 5 December 2000.
Maxwell was convicted in 2021 of conspiring with Epstein to traffic girls for sex.
In the files, there is also an entry referring to a planned lunch with Peter Thiel in November 2017. There is also an entry referring to a planned breakfast with Steve Bannon planned for 17 February 2019.
It is not suggested that those mentioned in the files were aware of the alleged criminal activity for which Epstein was later arrested.
Epstein died by suicide in a New York jail cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
In 2008, Epstein reached a plea deal with prosecutors after the parents of a 14-year-old girl told police in Florida that Epstein had molested their daughter at his Palm Beach home.
He was arrested again in July 2019 on sex trafficking charges.
Sara Guerrero, a spokesperson for the Democrats on the Oversight committee, urged Attorney General Pam Bondi to release more files related to Epstein.
“It should be clear to every American that Jeffrey Epstein was friends with some of the most powerful and wealthiest men in the world. Every new document produced provides new information as we work to bring justice for the survivors and victims,” she said.
Some businesses in the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) supply chain have just seven to 10 days of money left, an MP has told the BBC.
In the wake of a cyber attack on the car maker last month, which has led to a shutdown lasting weeks, 10 companies within the chain voiced concerns about their prospects at a meeting with the government’s Business and Trade Committee on Thursday.
Labour MP for Tamworth Sarah Edwards, who is a committee member, said some of the companies had not been paid by JLR since the end of August.
“They’re very worried, they are concerned,” Ms Edwards said. “It’s imperative suppliers are paid very very quickly.”
JLR, which has plants in Solihull, Wolverhampton and Merseyside, employs about 30,000 people directly, with an additional 100,000 in the supply chain.
Ms Edwards said the 10 companies in attendance at Thursday’s meeting covered a “cross section” of first-line direct suppliers, covering the “whole eco-system” of the supply chain.
She expressed particular concerns about the smaller suppliers and their cashflow concerns.
“It’s very worrying and that’s because we’re nearly a month into this – some of those suppliers had not been paid,” she said.
“We heard from one supplier who had still not received payment from JLR since 29 August, so it’s really good to hear that the [JLR] invoicing system is coming back online.”
A survey of 84 companies – between them employing nearly 30,000 workers in the West Midlands – revealed 77% of the firms reported the cyber-attack had had a negative impact on their business.
Some 35% told the Greater Birmingham, Black Country and Coventry & Warwickshire Chambers of Commerce they had cut staff hours as a result.
JLR said on Thursday that it had begun a “phased restart” of its operations with parts of its IT system back up and running.
Ms Edwards said some of the suggestions from the businesses were how to keep money within the supply chain and how the government might be able to support that.
“The feeling was [the need to] retain the work force and skills and having the immediate cash flow to keep these places open,” she said.
“We heard from one smaller supplier who’s already had to sell machinery, sell one of their trucks and go from two buildings down to one.
“Some people are at home already, they do not know whether they’ll be returning to work and when.”
The MP added that JLR needed “to be much clearer on the timeframe” for the return to production, as suppliers were unable to plan, meaning “they’re at a much higher risk of not being able to weather this.”
She said that some of the businesses thought that JLR “could have done more to communicate with them” and wanted clarity on the situation.
One idea the government is exploring is for it to buy the component parts built by the suppliers to keep them in business until JLR’s production lines are up and running, and then sell on those parts to JLR.
Ms Edwards said the businesses were pleased to hear it was an option being discussed but believed there would be “logistical challenges”.
“This is a ‘just in time’ operation, so storing those parts, making sure they’re not damaged, making sure that quality control is intact would be difficult,” she said.
“One of the thoughts [from the suppliers] therefore was that you could buy forward, so you’d essentially place the orders knowing you were going to start production but pay now. That’s an option they thought was more likely.”
Addressing the role of the government in supporting the supply chain, the MP said: “This is JLR and their issue, it shouldn’t really lie with the taxpayer, but it may be the taxpayer needs to step in temporarily.”
The Conservative Party said it would back a targeted emergency loan scheme for UK firms after the cyber attack affecting JLR.
The Tories have also called on the government to look into new cyber insurance measures.
“JLR’s supply chain is significant in the West Midlands and nationally,” said shadow business secretary Andrew Griffith.
JLR is owned by Indian firm Tata, which is majority owner of Indian IT company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
Parliament’s Business and Trade Committee wrote an open letter to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) CEO on Friday, asking whether TCS would be carrying out an internal investigation into the cyber-attack on Jaguar.
TCS has also provided IT services to Marks and Spencer (M&S) and it emerged in May that an investigation was launched by TCS to determine whether it was the gateway for a cyber attack on the British high street retailer.
In Friday’s letter, MPs asked TCS what its role was in connection with JLR, M&S and supermarket chain Co-op, which suffered a cyber-attack at almost the same time as M&S in late April.
The committee members also asked TCS whether it would share any findings from investigations into attacks on M&S and Co-op.
