The family of boxer Ricky Hatton have released the details of his funeral service.

The former world champion was found dead at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, at the age of 46 earlier this month.

His funeral will be held at midday on 10 October at Manchester Cathedral.

The family said a procession route would also soon be published to give fans the chance to pay their respects.

Tributes from around the world poured in for the fighter, considered one of Britain’s most popular ever.

Hatton’s younger brother and former boxer Matthew posted on X: “I love you Richard. See you on the other side.”

“Ricky was one of a kind,” wrote former Manchester United and England midfielder David Beckham on Instagram.

“Just heartbreaking.”

Former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury posted: “There will only ever be one Ricky Hatton. Can’t believe this – so young.”

Hatton claimed world titles at light-welterweight and welterweight across an esteemed 15-year career during which he won 45 of 48 professional bouts.

He also earned notable world title wins over Kostya Tszyu and Jose Luis Castillo, before defeats by Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, with more than 30,000 fans travelling to Las Vegas for his title fight with the latter in 2007.

Hatton had announced a return to the ring in July and was due to fight Eisa Al Dah at middleweight on 2 December in Dubai.

TOMMY FLEETWOOD AND Rory McIlroy continued their brilliant Ryder Cup partnership as they dismantled Collin Morikawa and Harris English in just 14 holes.

The pair, dubbed ‘Fleetwood Mac’, were 5&4 winners as Europe got off to a blistering start in Friday morning’s opening foursomes session.

The European duo — who are a perfect three from three together in Ryder Cup foursomes — got off to a perfect start with this McIlroy birdie at the first to go one up on the first hole:

They pushed out that lead with another birdie at the par-five fourth to go two up:

And quickly pressed home that advantage with birdies on the fifth:

And the sixth to win three straight holes and race into a commanding lead of four up thru six:

From there, the point appeared a mere formality, and when the par-three 14th was halved in par, McIlroy and Fleetwood sealed their 5&4 win.

“When you’ve got a partner like Tommy, you can play with so much freedom and trust in your game,” McIlroy said afterwards, “because you know you have someone that’s gonna back you up.

“That’s how I felt the two times that we played in Rome, and then today.

“Foursomes can be a tough format. You can play a little tentative with the way the format is, but knowing that I have this man beside me to bail me out if I do hit a bad shot, that’s very comforting to know.”

Russell Martin insists confidence among his Rangers players “is the best it has been” since he became head coach – and believes they can still win the Scottish Premiership title despite their dismal start to the season.

The Ibrox side have won four of their 14 games this term, but none in their opening five league matches, and lost four of the last seven.

Martin’s side are second bottom of the Premiership and suffered a 1-0 home defeat by Genk in Thursday’s Europa League opener, having been humiliated by Club Brugge in Champions League qualifying.

And while he conceded they cannot leave it “too much longer” to get the first league win, he insisted they can still claw back the nine-point deficit to leading duo Celtic and Hearts.

Martin, whose side visit Livingston on Sunday, said: “We want to be at the top of the table by the end of the season. If you leave it too much longer, you’ll start running out of games.

“So we have time to build and win and claw our way back. We have to be really hungry and start to make up the points difference and it has to start on Sunday.”

He told Sky Sports the players “are in a good place” despite the Genk loss, where they had Mohamed Diomande sent off four minutes before the break.

Martin also stressed many of his new players were “very young” but were gradually understanding what it meant to play for a club like Rangers.

“The togetherness, the willingness to run for each other, the willingness to take the ball with 10 men, all of that will stand us in good stead,” he added.

Martin admitted a manager’s “job is under threat wherever you work, all the time”, but insisted he does not listen to the “outside noise”, despite calls by many fans for him to be sacked.

He said much had been made about his chat with chairman Andrew Cavenagh and chief executive Patrick Stewart after the latest defeat, but added: “The media love making out that every one is a big conversation about ‘is he going, is he staying?’

“But, generally, we just chat about what we can improve, about the performance, about the next game. It is always the same.

“We have a good, honest conversation. It was nothing out of the ordinary.”
