THE FLAMES ARE lit, the athletes are in situ, and the theatrically spectacular opening ceremony has been staged.

This year’s Winter Olympic Games are officially underway in Milan-Cortina, where almost 3,000 athletes are vying for hundreds of medals across dozens of events.

Four Irish athletes are among those competing: Anabelle Zurbay and Cormac Comerford in Alpine Skiing; Ben Lynch in the Freestyle Skiing Halfpipe event; and Thomas Maloney Westgard in cross-country events.

There are eight sports (with variations within them) listed on the official Winter Olympics website – and it’s safe to say that most Irish people won’t have had the opportunity to try them out before. Maybe some day.

So in the hope of encouraging your Winter Olympic dreams, today we’re asking: What Winter Olympic sport would you most like to try?

Poll Results:

Bobsleigh (includes skeleton) (976)

None of the above (759)

Curling (719)

Skiing (includes Alpine skiing, ski jumping, snowboarding, etc.) (619)

Skating (includes speed skating, figure skating, etc.) (331)

Luge (261)

Ice Hockey (216)

Biathlon (209)

Ski Mountaineering (138)
