Read more on post.
House of Guinness, the historical drama now streaming on Netflix, delves into the lives of the Guinness siblings following their father’s demise. Anthony Boyle portrays the eldest son, Arthur Guinness, with Louis Partridge playing his brother Edward.
After their father’s funeral, Aunt Agnes, portrayed by Dervla Kirwan, is eager to learn about Benjamin Lee’s will and, importantly, whether she has been bequeathed anything.
Upon hearing from Arthur and Edward that it’s unlikely she’s mentioned in the will, she offers them some stern words.
She expresses her desire for the brothers to carry on Benjamin Lee’s legacy, pondering if it’s already clear who is “Ogma” and who is “The Dagda”.
Arthur is clueless about these names, leading Edward to explain that they refer to two brothers from Irish mythology. Here’s everything you need to know about the story behind Ogma and The Dagda.

Ogma is a deity in both Irish and Scottish mythology, known as a member of the Tuatha Dé Danann – a supernatural race.
He is thought to have invented Ogham, the script in which Irish Gaelic was first written.
Ogma is characterised as being “sun-faced”, a “strongman”, and a “champion”, renowned for his eloquence and poetic talent.
As explained in Irish Mythology Stories: “Ogma is often depicted as a warrior with immense physical strength and prowess in battle.
“However, his most distinctive attribute is his mastery of language and eloquence. He is considered the deity of speech, poetry, and knowledge. This combination of martial and intellectual skills makes Ogma a versatile and multifaceted character in Irish mythology.”

Ogma is sometimes referred to as the brother of The Dagda, but in other instances, he is portrayed as The Dagda’s son.
The Dagda is the chief god of the Tuatha Dé Danann, associated with fertility, agriculture, masculinity and strength.
His name is believed to translate to “the good god” or “the great god”.
The Irish Pagan School clarified that these terms were not about his moral standing, but rather an acknowledgment of his ability to be “good” at everything.
The Dagda was known for his many powers, including possessing a cauldron that never emptied, fruit trees that never failed to bear fruit, and a massive club capable of both killing men and bringing them back to life.
