AN IRISH MAN has died after he was stabbed by another Irish man in Romania last weekend.

The incident happened during an altercation at a rented apartment in Bucharest on 31 January, according to local media reports.

The reports stated that the victim, aged in his 20s, presented to a pharmacy before being taken to hospital by emergency services.

The suspect, also aged in his 20s, was subsequently detained for 24 hours before being placed on preventative arrest for 30 days.

According to local media the suspect has been remanded in custody.

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.

“As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases,” the spokesperson added. 

The Romanian Police have been contacted for comment.
