THE PRE-PLANNING DESIGN images for a pedestrianised College Green have been unveiled by Dublin City Council.
The council published mockups for what College Green – which sits ahead of Trinity College – and Dame street leading up to the junction with South Great George’s Street, is currently shaping up to look like once the area has been fully pedestrianised.

Titled “Grow College Green”, the project is described as a flagship project to “reimagine the historic centre of Dublin city, creating a new space that is a destination for everyone”.

The latest design has 75 new trees, 17,000 square metres of “improved public space for people, with a large civic space for people to gather and hold events, and wider footpaths everywhere”.
It also includes 1,400 square metres of landscaped areas, “with lots of planting, grass and public benches”, with areas for children and families to play.

The council and its partner in the project, the National Transport Authority, have yet to formally reveal any planned date for when the project will be completed, but it’s widely expected work will begin next year and be completed by 2030.
Plans are in place to reroute buses that currently travel through the area.

The plans released today are shaped by former public consultation, and the council has opened one final public consultation today that will remain open for submissions until 11 March. You can have your say here.
Plans will be lodged in the summer.
