Disney sure picked a terrible time to raise prices
This post was originally published on this site.
Disney is in a tangled web of its own making. In just one week, the entertainment giant managed to anger both sides of the political spectrum, and then topped it all off with a Disney Plus price hike that made just about everyone mad. Now, Disney’s facing criticism from all sides, and it may struggle to patch its relationship with many of its viewers.
Disney’s recent troubles started when it suspended Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night talk show after the host commented on the response to Charlie Kirk’s death in one of his monologues. Kimmel said MAGA supporters tried to “score political points” by characterizing the suspect “as anything other than …

Sharge’s magnetic fan-cooled SSD doubles as a USB hub
This post was originally published on this site.
Sharge is a brand slowly making a name for itself with eye-catching accessories that solve problems you didn’t realize you had. Its latest creation is an external SSD drive that includes a built-in cooling fan to improve its performance and longevity. It also has a bunch of extra ports so you can connect other accessories to your laptop or smartphone while moving data around. The Sharge Disk Pro just launched on Kickstarter and comes in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities temporarily discounted to $189, $289, and $469, respectively.
As the performance of SSDs has increased, so has their propensity to heat up while in use. Excess heat can affect an SSD’s reliability and lifespan, so their performance is reduced when they reach a certain temperature (often over 70 degrees Celsius). It’s especially a problem for external SSDs housed in slim cases with no airflow, but the Disk Pro’s fan solves that. It can be set to a Turbo Mode that continually runs at 10,000rpm to keep the drive’s operating temperature at around 50 degrees Celsius, or a quieter Auto Mode that adjusts the fan speed automatically up to 7,000rpm as cooling is needed, and turns it off completely below 25 degrees Celsius.
Sharge says the Disk Pro features read and write speeds of up to 10Gbps and can be magnetically attached to the back of smartphones or consoles. In addition to a built-in USB-C cable it has an HDMI port capable of 4K/144Hz and 8K/30Hz video output plus an extra USB-C and USB-A port that can deliver a total power output of 80W to connected devices. When you only need the hub functionality, a switch lets you disable the SSD entirely to help prolong its life.

Latest iOS beta hints at notifications on non-Apple watches
This post was originally published on this site.
Apple could soon improve the interoperability between iPhones and third-party smartwatches. The latest iOS 26.1 beta hints at a new “notification forwarding” feature that could surface iPhone notifications on a non-Apple device or accessory, as spotted by Macworld.
Code seen by Macworld suggests that users would only be able to forward notifications to one device at a time, while a new “AccessoryExtension” framework could improve the pairing process with third-party accessories as well. It’s still too early to tell how these features will work, but they seem related to an order from the European Commission that will force Apple to make iPhones work better with non-Apple accessories.
To comply with the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), Apple is required to give developers and device manufacturers access to certain features that will make it easier to pair, transfer data, and display notifications between the iPhone and third-party devices, such as smartwatches, headphones, and speakers. Apple has until the end of this year to open up most of these features, but it’s not clear if they’ll be available with the expected launch of iOS 26.1 next month, or if they’ll come to users outside the EU.
