House of Guinness star Anthony Boyle admits he looked ‘a bit mad’ during filming

House of Guinness is streaming on Netflix and the period drama chronicles the true tale of the Guinness family as they carry on their father’s heritage following his passing.

Peaky Blinders mastermind Steven Knight is the creative force behind the acclaimed series, featuring Anthony Boyle as Arthur Guinness and Louis Partridge as Edward Guinness.

Whilst certain characters draw from genuine historical personalities, others were created specifically for the programme, including James Norton’s Sean Rafferty.

Anthony Boyle revealed he relished adding his personal interpretation to the authentic Arthur Guinness, and during a screening of the programme, he discussed his transformation for the part.

He cultivated Arthur’s distinctive moustache naturally, though confessed it attracted peculiar glances from the general public.

The actor revealed: “When I had that moustache when I was in normal people clothes, like an Adidas tracksuit, I just looked like an out of work magician.

“I’d be cutting about Liverpool or Manchester and you’ll be going to yourself, ‘Jesus Christ I hope this moustache looks alright’.

“Then you’ll have so many people looking at you going ‘You look f****** mental’. Like I was going to be playing the Pringles man in a biopic. It looks a bit mad, to be fair.”

Speaking exclusively to Reach titles ahead of the screening, he disclosed it required more than two months to cultivate the facial hair.

He joked: “It took two-and-a-half months of pure concentration. Two-and-a-half months of just looking at myself in the mirror, looking at photos of Tom Selleck and other moustachioed men and it came out.”

Viewers are eagerly awaiting news on whether the series will get a second run following that dramatic cliffhanger finale, and Steven Knight delivered some thrilling news after the screening.

When asked about prospects for another season, he revealed: “Yes, of course. We are going to do season two, and three, and four.

“Yes absolutely, we are going to do this all the way to the 1960s.”

He continued: “I think what we have got with this show is something that is spectacularly successful in the way that it’s executed.”
