Tourist numbers rise by 1.2% in August – CSO

Tourist numbers in August, a key month for the hospitality industry, were up 1.2% compared to last year.
The new figures from the Central Statistics Office follow a number of months when numbers were down on 2024.
Excluding fares, last month tourists spent 9.3% less than they did the previous year.
“The average length of stay for foreign resident overnight visitors was 8.6 nights, down from an average of 8.7 nights in August 2024 and 9.9 nights in August 2023,” the CSO said.
It added that the largest contingent of visitors came from Great Britain (36%), followed by visitors from the US (23%).
The most frequent reason for travelling to Ireland was for holiday (48%).
The visitors spent €744m on their trips (excluding fares), a drop of 9% when compared with August last year, and an increase of 1% compared with August 2023.
