AT LEAST ONE person is dead after a “horrendous shooting” at a Mormon church in Michigan.

The shooting took place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan.

The Grand Blanc police chief William Renye said during a press conference that a 40-year-old male, from a nearby town, drove his vehicle through the front doors of the church, exited his vehicle and fired several rounds at people inside the church.

Renee said the service was active with “hundreds of people within the church.”

Ten gunshot victims have been transported to local hospitals during this time, including one person who is deceased.

The suspect was “neutralised” by officers after engaging in gunfire, Renye said. He added that the police department expects to find more victims once the scene is secure.

It’s believed that the fire engulfing the church was set deliberately by the suspect, the police chief added.

In a social media post, US President Donald Trump said he has been briefed on the shooting.

“The suspect is dead, but there is still a lot to learn,” Trump wrote.

He said the FBI was immediately on the scene and will be leading the federal investigation.

FBI director Kash Patel said his officials are tracking reports of the shooting and a fire at the church.

Patel said: “Violence in a place of worship is a cowardly and criminal act. Our prayers are with the victims and their families during this terrible tragedy.”

Trump added that the attack “appears to be yet another targeted attack on Christians in the United States of America”.

“THIS EPIDEMIC OF VIOLENCE IN OUR COUNTRY MUST END, IMMEDIATELY!” he concluded his post.
